A great way to save costs on a given PCBA is to remove any manual labor steps. A primary goal at Elecsys is to take as many manual labor steps out of the process as possible. As a part of this, we perform design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews on existing assemblies and look for ways to reduce the manual, hand labor aspect of that assembly.
The background picture shows the results of a recent DFM review on an existing assembly. The top board was expensive to build and had several obsolete components in the BOM. To create the board at the bottom, we redesigned it using available components and moved to SMT technology, all while maintaining the same form, fit and function of the assembly.
Please let us know if you have any assemblies that are being left behind due to obsolescence or expensive, manual labor costs. We are here to help and look forward to helping you solve your manufacturing issues.
